The 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest, despite running only four days, has generated a significant amount of player feedback. This article details how 2XKO is responding to these concerns and refining the game accordingly.

Developer Response to Playtest Feedback

Shaun Rivera, 2XKO's director, announced on Twitter (X) that gameplay adjustments are underway based on the Alpha Lab Playtest data. The game's League of Legends connection attracted a large player base, leading to numerous online discussions and shared gameplay clips highlighting exceptionally long and potentially unbalanced combos.

While Rivera lauded the "creative" nature of these combos, he acknowledged that extended periods of player inactivity are undesirable. A key focus will be reducing the frequency of "Touch of Death" (TOD) combos – instant kills from full health. The goal is to maintain the game's fast-paced action while ensuring balanced and engaging matches. While some TODs were anticipated, the team is actively analyzing data and player feedback to refine their occurrence, aiming for them to be exceptionally skillful feats rather than common occurrences.

The game's tutorial mode also received criticism. Players found that while the game’s core mechanics are easy to grasp, mastering its complexities presents a significant challenge. This is further complicated by the lack of skill-based matchmaking in the playtest. Professional player Christopher "NYChrisG" highlighted the game's intricate six-button system, comparing its complexity to titles like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, and BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Rivera acknowledged the need for significant tutorial improvements, stating that the current version is a "rough pass" and will be substantially enhanced. A dedicated Reddit thread invites player suggestions, with many recommending a tutorial structure similar to Guilty Gear Strive and Street Fighter 6.

Positive Player Response and Future Outlook

Despite the constructive criticism, player enthusiasm remains high. Professional player William "Leffen" Hjelte streamed 19 hours of 2XKO, and the game attracted thousands of Twitch viewers, peaking at 60,425 on its first day.

While 2XKO is still in closed alpha with no confirmed release date, the substantial player feedback and impressive viewership indicate strong potential and a dedicated community forming around the game. The developers' proactive engagement with player feedback suggests a commitment to refining the game into a polished and enjoyable experience.
