Cyberpunk 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
Featuring Multiple Cities
The highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is set to expand the game's world beyond Night City. At Digital Dragons 2025 on May 20, Mike Pondsmith, the founder of R. Talsorian Games and the original game designer, shared exciting updates on the sequel.
While Pondsmith's involvement in the new game isn't as extensive as it was with Cyberpunk 2077, he remains closely connected to its development. He mentioned, "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’"
He also confirmed that the sequel will feature a new city alongside Night City. "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’," Pondsmith enthused.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has been actively recruiting for Cyberpunk 2, with a recent job posting for a Lead Encounter Designer. The role involves crafting "memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players."
One of the job's key responsibilities is to "Work in close collaboration with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date." This suggests that Cyberpunk 2 aims to push boundaries in the gaming industry.
Although details about Project Orion remain scarce, the insights from Pondsmith and CDPR's recruitment efforts indicate that the sequel will build on the predecessor's rich world-building and compelling narrative.
New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port
In other news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the Cyberpunk 2077 port for the Switch 2, demonstrating their efforts to optimize the game for Nintendo’s upcoming console. Over 37 minutes of B-roll footage is available on CDPR’s website, showing the game in action on the Switch 2.
Initial reports from Nintendo Switch 2 showcase events in New York and Paris highlighted performance concerns, with Business Insider noting, "Such an intensive game playing on the Switch 2 is a fun novelty, but this definitely isn't the best way to play CyberPunk. I encountered lots of frame drops."
However, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress, stating to Game File on April 25, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is slated for release on the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. This edition will include the full base game, all updates since its launch, and the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related article below!
