Monster Hunter Wilds GPU Requirements May Lower as Capcom Tries to Optimize Game
Capcom is actively working to enhance Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its official launch, with a particular focus on reducing the game's demanding GPU requirements for PC players. Let's dive into the details.
Capcom Improves Monster Hunter Wilds' Performance Ahead of Launch
Lowering GPU Requirements for PC
As announced on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, Capcom is diligently optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds. A recent video showcased improved gameplay on PS5, highlighting a smoother framerate in the "Prioritize Framerate" mode, albeit with some graphical concessions. This same optimization effort extends to the PC version, with a specific goal of lowering the recommended GPU requirements. The Twitter (X) post stated their aim to improve performance similarly on PC and explore ways to reduce the necessary GPU power.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would significantly broaden the game's accessibility, allowing players with lower-end or mid-range GPUs to enjoy the hunt.
To further assist players, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool. This tool will help determine optimal settings and assess PC compatibility, potentially alleviating concerns about needing expensive hardware upgrades. Addressing Issues from the First Open Beta
The initial open beta test in October and November 2024 revealed several performance issues that left many players disappointed. Steam reviews highlighted low-poly character models and monsters, resulting in a visual quality some considered subpar. In addition to these graphical shortcomings, players reported frame rate drops and other performance problems, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often came at the expense of visual fidelity.
Capcom acknowledged these concerns on November 1, 2024, promising a fix for afterimage noise in the final game, which they stated would be significantly improved over the beta. This improvement is further supported by the announcement of Open Beta Test 2, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This second beta will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and a new, currently unannounced monster. Whether the recent performance optimizations will be included in this second beta remains to be seen.
