Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Hotfix 4.1 Reverses Controversial Nerfs

Following significant player backlash, Saber Interactive is releasing hotfix 4.1 for Space Marine 2 on October 24th. This patch directly addresses the controversial nerfs introduced in Patch 4.0, largely reverting the changes that sparked negative reviews and community outcry.

The developers acknowledged the negative reception, stating they received feedback that the game was too easy, even on the highest difficulty. Their initial attempt to address this in Patch 4.0 involved adjusting enemy spawns, unintentionally impacting lower difficulty levels. As a result, the "most pressing" balance changes from Patch 4.0 are being undone.

Key Reversals in Hotfix 4.1:

  • Enemy Spawns: Extremis enemy spawn rates are being reverted to pre-Patch 4.0 levels on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties, and significantly reduced on Ruthless.
  • Player Armor: A 10% armor increase for Ruthless difficulty.
  • Bot Buffs: Bots will now deal 30% more damage to bosses.
  • Bolt Weapon Buffs: A comprehensive buff to the entire Bolt weapon family, addressing their previous underperformance across all difficulties. Specific increases include:
    • Auto Bolt Rifle: +20% damage
    • Bolt Rifle: +10% damage

Furthermore, Saber Interactive announced plans for public test servers, anticipated for early 2025, to allow for community testing of future balance changes and prevent similar issues. The developers will continue monitoring player feedback following the release of hotfix 4.1 to ensure the game's difficulty remains appropriately challenging.
