Sony Launches teamLFG, New Bungie Studio for Action Game

Author : Sebastian Update : Oct 11,2025

Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG while teasing its first upcoming title.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG initially formed within Destiny and Marathon developer Bungie. The studio is currently developing an "ambitious" incubation project that Hulst describes as particularly exciting.

The studio's name, teamLFG - referencing the common gaming acronym 'Looking For Group' - hints at a strong social gaming focus. Their debut project will be a team-based action game blending elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and what they describe as "frog-type games." Players will enter a whimsical, humorous world set in an original science-fantasy universe.

"Our mission centers on crafting games where players discover friendship, community, and belonging," the studio explained. "We envision players feeling genuine excitement when logging in to find teammates already gathered online. Our goal is to foster recognizable connections between players and create shared legendary moments - those unforgettable plays that change entire match narratives."

The studio aims to build immersive multiplayer worlds powered by deep action systems players can master over countless hours. They plan to involve communities early through playtesting, maintaining flexibility to implement player feedback not just during development but throughout the game's live service lifecycle.

This project originally began as an incubation idea within Bungie before spinning off into its own studio. The separation occurred during significant Bungie layoffs in 2023, when the Destiny 2 developer reportedly missed financial targets following Sony's acquisition. Initial cuts affected approximately 100 employees in November 2023, with a second round in 2024 impacting 220 more staff members (about 17% of personnel), while 155 were reassigned within Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Following these restructuring moves, Destiny 2 saw several improvements that former Bungie staff publicly attributed to Sony's influence. Bungie has since fully revealed its extraction shooter Marathon and outlined Destiny 2's future roadmap, while reportedly shelving plans for Destiny 3 and canceling the Payback spinoff project.
