Lollipop Chainsaw Sequel Coming Without Creative Limits

Author : Hannah Update : Oct 17,2025

More than a decade after its debut, Lollipop Chainsaw is making a comeback with both a sequel and an anime adaptation.

Dragami Games, the successor to Kadokawa Games (the original developer), is spearheading the new installment following last year's remastered version titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePop for PC and consoles.

When Lollipop Chainsaw first released in 2012, it quickly gained cult status with its unique blend of hack-and-slash gameplay featuring a zombie-slaying cheerleader. The project boasted visionary direction from Suda51 of No More Heroes fame and partial writing credits from James Gunn—yes, the same Gunn who now oversees DC's cinematic universe but was years away from Guardians of the Galaxy at the time.

Current sales figures reveal the franchise has moved 1.5 million copies cumulatively, with the 2012 original accounting for over 1.24 million units—far outpacing its recent remaster.

The remastered edition faced criticism upon release, notably for omitting the original soundtrack and arriving later than planned after Dragami abandoned intentions for a full remake. Reports indicate fan preference swayed developers toward preserving the authentic experience rather than reinventing it.

Today's sequel announcement emphasizes honoring fan expectations while confirming involvement from several original team members—though conspicuously absent are mentions of Suda51 or Gunn's participation.

"Through collaboration between Nada Holdings and Dragami Games, we're crafting a new chapter that captures the essence of the original while evolving its appeal," reads the official statement. "Our dedicated team includes veteran developers committed to maintaining the series' unique identity while incorporating community feedback."

The announcement takes a pointed stance regarding creative direction, explicitly stating: "The sequel will preserve the original's signature dark humor and distinctive style without compromising its vision for contemporary inclusivity standards." This appears to reassure fans about maintaining the game's unabashed aesthetic.

"Mirroring its predecessor, the new title will deliver a world brimming with wicked comedy," concludes the press release. "Development will focus on authenticity, resisting external pressures that might dilute the franchise's defining characteristics."

No release window has been revealed for Lollipop Chainsaw 2 at this time.
