Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

Author : Aaliyah Update : May 18,2025

The developers of REPO are set to enhance the game's experience with significant updates to its Overcharge mechanic and difficulty scaling. These changes, informed by player feedback from the recent open beta, aim to make gameplay more dynamic and engaging as you progress through the levels.

Overcharge Overhaul

During REPO's open beta, the Overcharge mechanic caught the attention of developer Semiwork. This feature allows players to strategically counter enemies by picking them up and hurling them onto hard surfaces or away from their teammates. However, this action comes with a risk; players must monitor an Overcharge meter. If it fills up completely, they will explode, adding a thrilling layer of strategy to the game.

Originally introduced from the game's outset, the Overcharge mechanic will now unlock at level 10. Additionally, Semiwork plans to introduce new mechanics every 10 levels (at levels 20, 30, and so on), with Overcharge being the first in a series of progressively challenging elements. These mechanics will not only ramp up the difficulty but also enrich the game's lore. Semiwork's team teased, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

In a unique approach to gather direct player feedback, Semiwork developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, joined random matches during the open beta. Sundstrom shared, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." This hands-on interaction allowed them to ask players about their experiences and identify what elements of the game were most enjoyable.

Semiwork is committed to using this feedback to further refine REPO. The developers have promised more updates and insights into the game's evolution, ensuring that players remain at the heart of REPO's development journey.
