"Spectre Divide: Skin Prices Drop Amid Backlash Post-Launch"
Spectre Divide has swiftly reacted to player feedback by adjusting the steep pricing of skins and bundles in their newly launched online FPS, just hours after its release. Dive in to uncover the full details of Mountaintop Studios' announcement.
Spectre Divide Reduces Skin Prices Following Launch and Player Backlash
30% SP Refund for Select Players
Spectre Divide's developer, Mountaintop Studios, has taken immediate action by announcing a significant store price reduction in response to player concerns over the high costs of skins and bundles. Game director Lee Horn disclosed that in-game weapons and character skins will see a price drop of 17-25%, varying by item. This prompt decision was made just hours after the game's launch, spurred by widespread player backlash regarding the pricing.
"We've heard your feedback and we're making changes," Mountaintop Studios stated. "Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This adjustment follows player outcry over the game's pricing structure, particularly with the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which initially cost around $85 (9,000 SP), a price point many considered too high for a free-to-play title.
Mountaintop Studios has committed to providing a 30% SP refund to those who purchased items before the price adjustment, with refunds rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, prices for the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unchanged. "These packs will not have any adjustments. Anyone who purchased the Founder's pack / Supporter pack, and purchased the items above will get the extra SP added to their account as well," the studio clarified.
The community's reaction to these changes has been mixed, mirroring the game's current 49% Negative rating on Steam at the time of writing. The backlash led to negative review bombings on Steam, contributing to the game's "Mixed" status due to the high costs of in-game items. On social media, one player acknowledged the effort but felt it was insufficient, stating, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback." Another player proposed further enhancements, saying, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You’d probably get more money from me tbh!"
However, skepticism persists among some players. One fan expressed frustration over the timing of the price adjustments, commenting, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it and then you change it. If you keep on going in this direction then I don’t think this game will last any longer. Cause in future you will get heavy competition from other f2p games too."
