Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Update Adds New Game Plus and More
Team Ninja has rolled out a major update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, bringing it to version 1.0.7.0 with new features like New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and more.
This patch, promised in January to respond to player feedback, was outlined in a Team Ninja blog post. It’s now live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
New Game Plus works exactly as expected: you can start a fresh playthrough on any difficulty you’ve already cleared, keeping the weapons and Ninpo you collected in your previous run. However, all these items reset to Level 1, and you can’t instantly unlock higher difficulties through New Game Plus.
A new quality-of-life feature lets you hide the projectile weapon slung on your back. Head to Options > Game Settings to toggle the “Show Projectile Weapon” option on or off.
Balance tweaks include reducing enemy HP in Chapter 8 and Chapter 11, increasing enemy counts in Chapter 13 and Chapter 14, and boosting the damage of certain Ayane attacks.
Several bugs have also been resolved, including issues on high-end PCs, game-stopping glitches in specific chapters, and more. Full patch details are listed below.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2 dropped unexpectedly during the January Xbox Developer Direct. It’s a refined version of the classic action game built in Unreal Engine 5, leveraging the engine’s power to improve visuals, add new playable characters, and enhance combat mechanics.
In our 8/10 review of Ninja Gaiden Black 2, IGN wrote: “Fewer enemies with more health may mean Ninja Gaiden 2 Black isn’t quite the definitive version, but it’s a definite and gorgeous improvement over its Sigma 2 release, and still an excellent action game all around.”
