Stardew Valley 2 Pondered as Dev Eyes Original's Expansion

Author : Allison Update : Mar 14,2026

The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has hinted at the possibility of developing "Stardew Valley 2" in the future.

However, in his recent interview with TigerBelly, the developer cautioned fans against getting too excited, explaining that expanding the current game is significantly easier than starting an entirely new project from scratch.

"All the core systems are already in place - the foundational work that's less enjoyable to develop," Barone noted. "With updates now, I can freely implement whimsical additions like green rain or other spontaneous creative ideas."

Barone did confirm, "Honestly, I might create Stardew Valley 2 eventually," as reported by Nintendo Life.

During the interview, Barone revealed his desire to expand beyond being "the Stardew Valley guy," which led to his current work on Haunted Chocolatier. Fans shouldn't anticipate an imminent release though - the developer emphasized there's still considerable work remaining, as he aims to surpass Stardew Valley's quality.

Our initial 2016 Stardew Valley review scored the farming simulator 8.8 ("Great"), but our 2024 reevaluation elevated it to a perfect 10/10 masterpiece. We described it as "not just the pinnacle of farming games, but one of gaming's greatest achievements - an evergreen title that continues to captivate players years after launch."

The recently updated Stardew Valley Beginner's Guide covers all 1.6 update content including new crops, fish, and the Raccoon Family Quests. Experienced players can consult our Mastering Points guide, while those exploring Ginger Island will find help locating all Golden Walnuts.
