During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan Works unveiled an official gameplay trailer for Ratatan, providing fans with a thrilling sneak peek. The trailer highlights a battle against a giant boss crab, showcasing the game's rhythm roguelike action elements. Ratatan seamlessly blends rhythm games with side-scrolling action, promising an engaging experience. One of the standout features is the online co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players, allowing for cooperative play with up to 100 characters in massive melee battles.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has already made significant strides. Its Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on various gaming platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to a recent post on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the producer of Ratatan, shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones. The game has now surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, it will not be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team is focusing on perfecting the closed beta test. The team aims to deliver an enhanced demo version for the Steam Next festival in June.
Sakajiri outlined what players can expect from the closed beta. The initial build will include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added during the test period, which will span about a month. Details regarding the distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X once confirmed.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build as more details emerge.
