Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update

Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025

The Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) is scheduled to commence on March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET/ 8 PM CET, right after the R6 Siege X Showcase concludes, and will run until March 19th at the same times. To participate, fans can tune into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or watch streams from selected Content Creators to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. This beta will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

However, some players have reported issues with not receiving the necessary access codes via email. Ubisoft Support acknowledged this glitch on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it and send out the codes promptly.

It's crucial to understand that R6 Siege X is not a new game but a significant update designed to enhance the core experience with graphical and technical upgrades.

New 6v6 Game Mode Dual Front

Dual Front is a dynamic new 6v6 game mode introduced by Ubisoft. It promises "foundational upgrades to the core game," including visual enhancements, audio improvements, and better rappelling mechanics, alongside new player protection systems. This mode will be free to access, allowing more players to experience the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege.

The action unfolds on a new map, District, where two teams of six Operators will simultaneously attack and defend sectors, creating new strategic opportunities with unique gadget combinations and tactics. Alongside Dual Front, the classic Siege mode, now renamed "Core Siege," will see five maps updated with modernized textures, optional 4K resolution on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. These updates will start with Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, with more to follow in future seasons.

Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10

Starting in Season 2 of Year 10, Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model, aligning with trends set by its competitors. Initially launched in 2015, Siege was part of the era dominated by paid multiplayer titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Battlefield Hardline.

Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis, speaking at the R6 Siege X Showcase event in Atlanta on March 13, emphasized the goal of attracting new players. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," he stated. He added that this move reduces the entry barrier, especially since Siege thrives on community and teamwork.

Free access will include modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front, but Ranked mode and Siege Cup will remain behind a paywall to maintain competitive integrity and deter smurfs and cheaters. This strategy was previously discussed by then-game director Leroy Athanassoff in 2020, who noted that the pay-to-play model helped in maintaining the game's competitive nature.

Siege 2 Was Never On The Table

Despite reaching its 10-year anniversary, Ubisoft never considered creating a sequel like Overwatch 2 or Counter-Strike 2. Karpazis explained, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." He stressed the importance of doing what was right for Siege and its community, which has been integral to the game's success over the past decade.

Siege X has been in development for three years, running parallel to Siege’s ongoing seasonal updates. Karpazis views Siege X as a pivotal moment to make significant changes and ensure the game's longevity for another decade. "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far," he said.

Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our dedicated Rainbow Six Siege article below!
