Hyper Light Breaker offers players a vast array of gameplay options, including a diverse roster of characters to choose from. These Breakers are tasked with battling the Abyss King, each bringing their own unique playstyles to the fight.

Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward compared to other roguelikes, but the game itself doesn't provide clear instructions on how to do so. This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking new Breakers and give you an overview of the characters available in the early access version of the game. We'll keep this guide updated as more characters become available.

How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

To unlock new characters, players need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by Crowns (bosses). Before facing the Crowns, you must first acquire Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can find Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.

After defeating a boss, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter, and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to unlock the selected character, making them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in the game, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method to unlock future characters is yet to be confirmed.

All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

Each character in Hyper Light Breaker starts with a SyCom, a crucial item that defines their base stats and core perk, shaping their playstyle. This is the primary factor in deciding which character to use. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles.

Vermillion

Vermillion is the first character players encounter, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom by default. This SyCom provides balanced stats that favor ranged combat, with the ability to guarantee a critical hit following a crit with Rail shots.

For players who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers better defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.

Lapis

Lapis also starts as a Rail-focused Breaker with the Lightweaver SyCom, which increases Rail shot damage after picking up a Battery (ammo). However, her unique Warrior SyCom enhances her core stats with each upgrade, making her increasingly powerful over time.

Lapis excels with both SyComs, but the Warrior SyCom transforms her into a formidable force with enough upgrades, surpassing other Breakers in raw stats.

Goro

Goro specializes in ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up charging of Blade skills while shooting. His unlockable Sniper SyCom boosts his critical hit rate.

Goro fits the ranged glass cannon archetype, offering high damage potential but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro can be challenging, but his effectiveness in combat is unmatched when played correctly.
