Batman and Deadpool Lead Marvel-DC Crossover Revival After 22 Years
The iconic rivalry between Marvel and DC takes a backseat as the two giants unite for their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. Leading this historic collaboration are none other than Batman and Deadpool.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Marvel and DC are joining forces for two one-shot specials spotlighting the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth. Marvel’s Deadpool/Batman #1, penned by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) with art by Greg Capullo (Batman), and DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1, written by Grant Morrison (Batman) with illustrations by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest), will both feature "backup adventures" pairing additional Marvel and DC characters.

This project marks the first major Marvel-DC crossover in over two decades, not counting Fortnite’s Omniverse. The two companies have a history of joint ventures, starting with 1976’s Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
“These crossovers happen roughly once per generation of readers. The reasons are open to interpretation,” says DC President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher Jim Lee in an interview with EW. “Timing is key—you don’t want these too frequently. They need to feel unique. It takes significant coordination, collaboration, and approvals. From a business perspective, revenue is shared, but the creative payoff must match the hype.”
Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley explains why Batman and Deadpool were chosen to headline this event, citing their dynamic chemistry.
“It’s just a fun pairing, plain and simple,” Buckley says. “Deadpool alongside Batman offers humor, excitement, and a touch of intense action. Our goal is to create something entertaining, highlight the magic of comics, and draw in both new and returning readers.”
