Warner Bros. Hit by Layoffs Amidst 'Suicide Squad' Furore
Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs in late 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs which halved the testing team's size.
The 2024 struggles for Suicide Squad are well-documented, with Warner Bros. reporting approximately $200 million in losses due to the game's poor reception. No further updates are planned for 2025, though servers will remain active.
These cuts weren't limited to Rocksteady; Games Montreal, another Warner Bros. studio, also experienced significant layoffs (99 employees) in December.
The game's early access launch exacerbated the situation. Players encountered numerous bugs, including server outages and a major plot spoiler. Negative reviews from prominent gaming publications and widespread complaints about gameplay led to a massive 791% surge in refund requests, according to McLuck analytics.
Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
