Star Wars Eyeing Gosling with Deadpool Duo

Author : Mila Update : Feb 20,2025

Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly in talks to helm a new Star Wars film, with Ryan Gosling potentially starring. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that negotiations are underway to bring Gosling onboard. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script completed last year. He's collaborating again with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter for This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps, with no confirmation on Gosling's role or the film's time period within the Star Wars timeline. However, it's confirmed to be outside the Skywalker Saga and intended as a standalone film, rather than the start of a trilogy.

Gosling's potential involvement has reportedly accelerated the project's timeline. Levy was previously attached to direct a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, if Gosling signs on, the Star Wars film will likely become Levy's next project, with production potentially starting this fall.

This new project arrives at a pivotal moment for the Star Wars franchise. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney+ recently concluded its Skeleton Crew series. On the film front, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed filming in December, slated for release on May 22, 2026. A new trilogy centered around Daisy Ridley's Rey is also in the works.

A release date for Levy's Star Wars film remains unannounced, pending the project's progress. For a comprehensive overview of upcoming Star Wars content, consult our 2025 preview.
