During the early access livestream held on April 16, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible on Steam, just a few short weeks after the release of its first trailer.

The gaming world was abuzz with excitement as Dragonwilds, which had only opened for wishlisting on Steam on April 1 and showcased its first gameplay teaser on April 2, took this bold step. Initially teased to the public in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex opened signups for alpha testing of their "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026

The anticipation for a full release is set for early 2026, as per the developers' estimates. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to make sure that our players get a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends again and again."

Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape experience, specifically crafted for the franchise's devoted followers. He noted that the early access phase marks the beginning of their development journey, saying, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed

Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the upcoming additions for Dragonwilds. A highlight is the introduction of a new region, Fellhollow, a mystical area teetering between life and death. This region, dominated by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will embark on this adventure alongside the iconic RuneScape character, Death. Expect new quests, lore, gear, music, and skills in magic, ranged, and farming.

The game will also introduce new enemy types such as Lesser Dragons, new dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, a creative mode, and more. Although specific release dates for these updates are not set, Jagex assures continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
