Resident Evil 4 Remake Passes Major Franchise Sales Milestone
Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales Surpass 9 Million
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake continues its phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold. This milestone follows the game's rapid climb to 8 million sales earlier this year, fueled by the February 2023 release of the Gold Edition and a late 2023 iOS launch.
The remake, released in March 2023, reimagines the 2005 classic, following Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter. A significant shift from the series' survival horror roots, the remake embraced a more action-oriented gameplay style.
CapcomDev1's Twitter account celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork featuring Ada, Krauser, Saddler, Salazar, and Mendez enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the PS5 Pro experience.
Record-Breaking Success
Resident Evil 4's sales trajectory is unprecedented for the franchise. According to Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, it's the fastest-selling Resident Evil game to date, outpacing Resident Evil Village, which reached 500,000 copies in its eighth quarter.
Anticipation for Future Remakes
The success of Resident Evil 4 has fueled fan speculation about future Capcom projects. A remake of Resident Evil 5 is highly anticipated, particularly given the relatively short timeframe between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both crucial to the overarching narrative, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, news of a Resident Evil 9 would also be incredibly well-received.
