"Path of Exile 2: Tips for Finding More Citadels"
After completing the main campaign and the Cruel difficulty Acts 1 through 3 in Path of Exile 2, players unlock the Endgame and gain access to the Atlas of Worlds. Within the Atlas map, players encounter various unique structures, each offering distinct gameplay mechanics and challenges. These include the Realmgate, Lost Towers, the Burning Monolith, and the elusive Citadels.
Citadels are among the most sought-after endgame objectives in Path of Exile 2. They stand out as towering structures amidst the Fog of War, while the Realmgate and Burning Monolith are typically found near the Atlas's starting point. With the upcoming 0.1.1 update, Citadels will become more visible from a distance, making them easier to locate. However, if you're struggling to find Citadels on your Atlas map, here are some tips to help you uncover more of these crucial locations.
What Are Citadels For In PoE 2?
In Path of Exile 2, Citadels are specialized map nodes that come in three varieties: Iron, Copper, and Stone. Each Citadel type houses a unique Boss, repurposed from the PoE 2 campaign but enhanced for endgame challenges. Defeating these bosses rewards players with a Crisis Fragment, essential for unlocking the Burning Monolith, where the Atlas pinnacle boss, the Arbiter of Ash, resides. Completing this challenge finishes the "Pinnacle of Flame" quest, initiated upon entering the Burning Monolith map and examining its locked door.
- Iron Citadel: Home to Count Geonor (Act 1 boss), recognizable as a large city with black walls.
- Copper Citadel: Features Jamanra, The Abomination (Act 2 boss), appearing as a vast encampment encircling the map node.
- Stone Citadel: Guards Doryani (Act 3 boss), resembling a stone pyramid akin to Act 3's ziggurats.
To access a Citadel, players must use a Tier 15 Waystone to travel to its node and activate it. Similar to other maps, you get one shot at navigating the Citadel and defeating its boss without dying. These areas are not only critical for obtaining Crisis Fragments but also offer the chance to loot exceptional items from these formidable bosses. Once completed, a Citadel cannot be re-run, prompting players to explore the Atlas further for new Citadels.
How To Find More Citadels In PoE 2
With the 0.1.1 update, spotting Citadels on the Atlas map becomes easier due to a new beacon of light that pierces through the Fog of War, guiding players to these locations more efficiently. If no Citadels are visible near your current position, the best strategy to uncover more is to move in a straight line in one direction, maximizing the reveal of the Fog of War and broadening your view of the Atlas map. Along your path, make sure to visit any Lost Towers you encounter, as completing these will clear a large area of Fog, potentially revealing nearby Citadels.
Each Citadel type tends to spawn in specific biomes, which can help in targeting your search:
- Iron Citadels are commonly found in Grass or Forest biomes.
- Copper Citadels typically appear in Desert biomes.
- Stone Citadels are often located along the coast of any biome.
Keep in mind that Citadels are usually spaced out, with rare instances of multiple Citadels appearing on the same screen when fully zoomed out. After finding a Citadel, continue your search in a different direction to uncover more. With the 0.1.1 update, beacons will be visible within a few screens of your explored areas. If you still can't spot any Citadels, persist with the straight-line exploration strategy until you see a beacon guiding you to your next challenge.
