Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Have a New Gimmick

Author : Emery Update : Jan 06,2025

New circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons may function as computer mice. While the adoption by game developers remains uncertain, this aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

The evidence, shared by Famiboards user LiC, comes from Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This source has previously yielded numerous Switch 2 rumors.

LiC's recent discovery includes polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" – typically found on computer mice – and intended "to stick to game console handles." Two model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced, but these aren't found in public databases, hinting at unreleased products. The 90 x 90mm tape size suggests it could cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, potentially requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handhelds

This isn't unprecedented; Lenovo's Legion GO handheld already features a mouse mode for its right controller when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic piece to aid smooth surface movement. The Legion GO also boasts magnetic rails for controllers, a feature rumored for the Switch 2, offering a potential preview of Nintendo's hybrid console.
