Nightmare Remake Unveiled in Dead by Daylight Update
Dead by Daylight's Nightmare Gets a Much-Needed Rework
Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is receiving a significant gameplay overhaul in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. Long considered one of the weaker Killers, this rework aims to boost his competitiveness and better reflect his iconic horror persona.
The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare greater tactical flexibility. Dream Snares are enhanced, now moving at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges), and impacting sleeping and awake Survivors differently. Awake Survivors will have their sleep meter increased, while sleeping Survivors will be hindered.
Dream Pallets gain an explosive function, inflicting injury on sleeping Survivors and extending the sleep meter for awake ones. These changes aim to better represent Freddy's power dynamic, making him stronger within the Dream World.
Enhanced Teleportation and Interactions:
The Nightmare's teleportation abilities are also receiving improvements. He can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) within the Dream World. Furthermore, he can now teleport to within 12 meters of any Survivor actively healing, enhancing his ability to disrupt Survivor actions. Survivors within 8 meters of a teleport will be revealed via Killer Instinct, adding another layer of strategic gameplay.
Add-On Adjustments and Perk Considerations:
Several of The Nightmare's Add-Ons will be adjusted to encourage more creative loadouts. However, his perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged, potentially to preserve the original character design.
Key Rework Details:
- [CHANGE] Swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets using the Active Ability.
- [NEW] Dream Snares travel at 12 m/s (5-second cooldown), bypassing walls and stairs. Unique effects based on Survivor sleep state.
- [NEW] Dream Pallets explode (1.5-second delay, 3-meter radius) inflicting injury on sleeping Survivors or extending the sleep meter for awake Survivors.
- [NEW] Teleportation to any generator or healing Survivor in the Dream World. Teleporting near Survivors reveals them (Killer Instinct) and increases their sleep meter.
- [CHANGE] Teleport cooldown reduced from 45 to 30 seconds; cancellation removed.
- [NEW] Healing Survivors in the Dream World are revealed by Killer Instinct (lingering for 3 seconds after stopping).
- [CHANGE] Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up.
- [NEW] Alarm Clocks have a 45-second cooldown after use.
While the exact release date is unannounced, these mechanics are currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB), hinting at an imminent arrival in the live game. This rework promises to significantly alter The Nightmare's gameplay, making him a more viable and exciting Killer for players to master.
