Diving into the Abyss
The Made in Abyss saga began in 2012 with a manga by Akihito Tsukushi, which was serialized on Web Comic Gamma. The story centers around Riko, a young orphan residing in the town of Orth, which is perched on the edge of a colossal vertical chasm known as the Abyss. This mysterious abyss is filled with ancient technology, bizarre creatures, and a haunting enigma that has consumed countless explorers.
Driven by the desire to emulate her mother, Lyza, a renowned White Whistle Cave Raider who vanished within the Abyss, Riko embarks on a perilous journey. Along her path, she encounters Reg, a half-robot boy with no recollection of his origins. Together, they venture deeper into the Abyss, fully aware that their expedition could be a one-way trip.
The manga's success led to an anime adaptation in 2017, followed by a sequel film titled Dawn of the Deep Soul, released in Japan in 2020. In 2022, Chime Corporation further expanded the universe with a console and PC RPG, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.
