Uth Duna, a leviathan-type monster, first makes its appearance in the Scarlet Forest during the Chapter 1 mission questline. After successfully conquering other notable foes like Lala Barina and Congalala, you and your companion Alma will need to rendezvous with Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam.
As the weather shifts dramatically, Uth Duna will emerge during the monsoon in Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge. Your primary goal becomes to defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.

Known as ‘A Feast in the Deep’, Uth Duna emerges when the waters of the Scarlet Forest surge to dangerous heights. As the region’s apex predator, this battle will be more challenging than others you've encountered in the storyline.
Preparation is key. If available, equip a thunder-element weapon (obtainable from Rey Dau in Mission 2-2). Alternatively, enhance your gear with a Talisman, such as Water Charm I, to boost your water resistance.
Don't forget to enjoy a hearty meal before setting out to keep your Health and Stamina at optimal levels. Pack Nulberries to counteract Waterblight, the primary status ailment Uth Duna can inflict.
Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses
When facing Uth Duna, note its iridescent fins on its legs and tail, which act as a ‘Veil’. This Veil temporarily increases the monster’s defense but slows its movements. By damaging the Veil, the fins retract, exposing Uth Duna's weak points, including its Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and both Forelegs (breakable).
However, with the Veil gone, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive and increases its attack frequency. You'll need to remain agile, especially in the water.
Uth Duna’s arsenal includes several physical attacks that leverage its size to deal significant damage and create disruptive waves:
- Belly Slam – Uth Duna rears back on its hind legs and slams forward, exposing its belly.
- Roar – Like other monsters, Uth Duna roars to temporarily immobilize you.
- Body Coil – It coils up and spins before lashing out with its tail.
- Aerial Twirl – Uth Duna leaps into the air with a twirl, then slams down, covering a wide area.
- Leg Swipe – Close combat may prompt Uth Duna to swipe at you with its clawed feet.
After defeating Uth Duna at least once, you can consult the Field Guide for a detailed breakdown of its weaknesses.
