IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The much-anticipated game from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. As one of the most eagerly awaited indie games since its announcement in 2019, Silksong has consistently topped the Steam wishlist chart, reflecting its global popularity.

The playable demo will be part of the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, which will also feature displays that explore the game's intricate design and artistic direction. Visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as understand the logic behind the game's challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm about featuring Silksong: "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of several design elements that will be displayed in the exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

While an exact release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong remains undisclosed, the playable demo at ACMI suggests that a launch might occur before September 18, possibly in August. The excitement around the game continues to build, especially after its brief appearance at Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years, offering a few seconds of new gameplay.

Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 planned for later, Silksong has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry kicked off 2025 with a mysterious hint involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
