Epic Games has outlined the technical specifications for Fortnite's upcoming release on the Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that mouse support will be added in a forthcoming update.

This new iteration of the popular battle royale game will feature an enhanced frame rate of 60 FPS and improved resolution, reaching 2176x1224 in docked mode and 1600x900 in handheld mode.

The upgraded hardware also enables a longer draw distance for more effective long-range combat, alongside improved clothing physics, higher-resolution textures, and better shadow and water rendering.

The replay feature, absent from the Switch 1 version, will finally be available, allowing players to review matches and identify their eliminators. However, the original Save the World mode remains unavailable, as it has never been offered on Nintendo platforms.

Mouse controls will be introduced with the major v37.00 update, scheduled for release on Saturday, June 7. By default, the mouse will function as a replacement for the right analog stick, utilizing the Joy-Con 2's optical sensor for camera control.

Mouse input will be supported across all major Fortnite modes, including Battle Royale, Zero Build, Team Rumble, Reload, Reload - Zero Build, Fortnite OG, and Fortnite OG Zero Build, as well as in menu navigation.

To celebrate the Switch 2 launch, players who access Fortnite on the new console before March 31, 2026, will receive an exclusive Wishing Star emote. Epic Games describes it: "Grab a shooting star, make a wish, and toss it back into the sky! While you can't ride it, it's a delightful nod to a classic franchise." This is a clear reference to Kirby, fueling hopes for future Nintendo character collaborations.

Fortnite is now available on the globally launched Switch 2. The game is currently concluding its Star Wars-themed Galactic Battle season, which culminates in a unique live event this Saturday where players can infiltrate the Death Star.

It has been an active period for Epic Games, with discussions on AI integration in Unreal Engine and Fortnite, particularly following the introduction of an AI-driven Darth Vader. The company, alongside CD Projekt Red, has also addressed questions about the impressive Witcher 4 demo and how closely the final product will resemble it.
