Dark Heresy: New cRPG Announced by Rogue Trader Developer
Owlcat Games has unveiled their latest venture into the grimdark universe with Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Announced during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase, this new cRPG invites players to step into the shoes of an Inquisitor, a formidable enforcer of the Imperium dedicated to rooting out heresy.
Here's the official description of the game:
Step into the shadows as an acolyte of the Inquisition in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a second narrative-driven tactical RPG set in the beloved grimdark universe. Set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption — from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary.
With intricate investigations, a turn-based combat system, and choices that carry grave consequences, Dark Heresy is set to deliver an atmospheric dive into the brutality and mysticism of one of the Imperium's most feared organizations. The game greatly expands on the ideas introduced in Rogue Trader and features fully voiced dialogues.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is slated for release on PC (available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store) as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. While a specific release window has not been disclosed, fans can look forward to diving deeper into the shadowy world of the Inquisition.
In addition to the announcement of Dark Heresy, Owlcat Games also shared future content plans for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. The second major story expansion, Lex Imperialis, is set to launch on June 24, 2025. This 15-hour storyline introduces players to the Adeptus Arbites, the Imperium's incorruptible enforcers, and a new companion, the grim and relentless Solomorne Anthar. Players will also have access to new battle Familiars, including cybernetic eagles and cyber-mastiffs, which promise to enrich both the gameplay and narrative layers of Rogue Trader.
Furthermore, Season Pass 2 for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader was announced, featuring two additional expansions and an appearance customization pack. The third expansion will allow players to delve into a Necron vault managed by the fan-favorite Trazyn the Infinite, where they will confront ancient guardians and uncover relics tied to the Von Valancius legacy. The fourth expansion introduces the Processional of the Damned, a haunting voidship graveyard that promises a descent into madness and mystery. Each expansion will offer around 15 hours of gameplay, new companion characters, and quests deeply integrated into the main storyline, along with new mechanics.
