AMD Unveils AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF 2): Enhanced Gaming with Reduced Latency

AMD has launched the latest iteration of its frame generation technology, AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF 2). This upgrade promises substantial performance enhancements, most notably a reduction in latency of up to 28%.

Early Access and Impressive Results

AMD recently offered an early preview of AFMF 2, highlighting its improved performance. The technology boasts several optimizations and customizable settings designed to increase frame rates and deliver smoother gameplay. Internal testing, including a gamer poll, suggests an average 9.3/10 rating for image quality and smoothness. AMD attributes these improvements to advanced AI algorithms that enhance visuals while minimizing latency. The company released AFMF 2 as a technical preview to gather user feedback for further refinement.

Significant Latency Reduction in Demanding Games

A key improvement in AFMF 2 is the significant decrease in latency. AMD's benchmarks show up to a 28% latency reduction compared to its predecessor. This is particularly evident in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, where using AFMF 2 at 4K Ultra Ray Tracing settings with an RX 7900 XTX resulted in markedly lower latency.

Expanded Compatibility and Functionality

AFMF 2 boasts expanded compatibility, now supporting borderless fullscreen mode with AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon 700M series graphics cards. Furthermore, it works seamlessly with Vulkan and OpenGL games, enhancing animation smoothness. Interoperability with AMD Radeon Chill, enabling user-defined FPS caps, further refines the user experience. The combination of these features promises a significantly improved gaming experience.
