WoW: Season of Discovery Players Rediscover Notorious Bug From 2005
World of Warcraft's infamous Corrupted Blood Incident makes an unexpected return in the Season of Discovery. Players have recreated the 2005 event, unintentionally unleashing the deadly plague in major cities.
The incident stems from the Zul'Gurub raid, reintroduced in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery. Hakkar the Soulflayer's Corrupted Blood spell, originally released in 2005, deals damage over time and spreads to nearby players. While manageable in the raid, the spell's ability to infect pets and minions led to widespread chaos in 2005, and now, a similar situation has unfolded.
Video footage circulating on r/classicwow shows the debuff spreading rapidly through Stormwind City's Trade District. One player, Lightstruckx, documented their experience using healing spells to survive the rapidly spreading plague. This mirrors the 2005 incident where players deliberately spread the disease using infected pets.
The reemergence of Corrupted Blood raises concerns, particularly for the upcoming World of Warcraft: Classic Hardcore mode. Unlike Season of Discovery, Hardcore mode features permanent death, making the uncontrolled spread of Corrupted Blood a significant threat.
While Blizzard has implemented past fixes, the issue persists. With Phase 7 of Season of Discovery planned for early 2025, the question of when Blizzard will definitively address this recurring problem remains.
