World of Warcraft Delays Plunderstorm Launch

Summary

  • World of Warcraft's Plunderstorm event has been delayed due to unforeseen technical issues.
  • A new launch time has not yet been announced.
  • Players can enjoy other WoW activities while waiting for Plunderstorm's return.

World of Warcraft has temporarily delayed the launch of its second Plunderstorm event to address unexpected technical problems. While the goal remains to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14th, players will need to exercise a bit more patience than initially anticipated to enjoy this popular battle royale game mode.

Plunderstorm, a pirate-themed battle royale mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, was slated to return on January 14th, 2025, boasting both returning and brand-new rewards.

Unfortunately, unforeseen complications arose during the rollout. The initially scheduled six-hour maintenance period was extended to eight hours, with servers expected back online at 3 PM PST. However, a WoW community manager, Kaivax, announced further delays due to "unexpected issues." While Blizzard aims for a launch before the end of January 14th, no revised launch time is currently available.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14th, pending resolution of unforeseen issues.

Regular WoW servers are now back online, allowing players to progress with other in-game activities. Players awaiting Plunderstorm can complete Siren Isle weeklies, participate in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or engage in other content within The War Within.

This second iteration of Plunderstorm includes new features such as the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. These new features may be contributing to the current technical difficulties. Hopefully, Blizzard will resolve these issues swiftly.

Despite the game mode's delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are still active. Viewers who watch four hours of any World of Warcraft Twitch streamer before February 4th at 10 AM PST can earn the Coward's Azure Target back transmog. The streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm, offering players a way to earn rewards while they wait.
