Upcoming Game is Like a Western Version of Stardew Valley

Cattle Country, a soon-to-be-released Steam game currently available for wishlisting, promises to capture the hearts of Stardew Valley enthusiasts. Like Stardew Valley, Cattle Country offers diverse money-making opportunities on your farm, but with a Wild West twist.

Castle Pixel, an independent developer with a history dating back to 2014 (known for the 2D platformer Rex Rocket, also on Steam), is behind the project. Their latest release, Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince, is a classic fantasy adventure reminiscent of Zelda. Cattle Country marks their debut in the farming sim genre.

Steam's official description labels Cattle Country a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim." While innovative, it incorporates familiar farming sim elements, including building a mountain home and contributing to the town's growth. As in Stardew Valley, players will forge friendships with villagers.

What Distinguishes Cattle Country?

The game's unique selling point is its Old West setting. The reveal trailer showcases scenes of nighttime cattle herding around a campfire and a horse-drawn wagon traversing dusty roads. The Steam page features additional footage, including action-packed sequences like a Wild West shootout with bandits and a bare-knuckle brawl in a makeshift arena. Mining is included, presented in a 2D Terraria-style format.

Familiar farming mechanics are also present: planting and harvesting crops, using scarecrows, and logging for building materials. Festivals, a hallmark of the genre, are featured, but with unique Cattle Country additions, such as a Santa Claus visit and a traditional square dance.

While a release date remains unannounced, you can add Cattle Country to your Steam wishlist.
