Tencent's Increased Stake in Kuro Games

Tencent's shareholding in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Despite this increased control, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This model mirrors Tencent's relationships with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement highlights the acquisition's role in fostering a "more stable external environment" and supporting its long-term independence strategy. Tencent has not yet publicly commented on the acquisition.

Kuro Games' Success and Future Outlook

Kuro Games is a prominent Chinese game developer, recognized for its acclaimed action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven and the recently released open-world RPG Wuthering Waves. Both games have achieved considerable commercial success, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue and receiving ongoing updates. The recognition extends to awards, with Wuthering Waves earning a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
