Sydney Sweeney to Lead in 'Split Fiction' Movie Adaptation

Author : Elijah Update : May 18,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the film adaptation of the popular video game Split Fiction. The project, spearheaded by video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen, is gaining momentum with Wicked director Jon M. Chu at the helm. The script is penned by the talented duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As the talent package is being shopped around to Hollywood studios, anticipation for a potential bidding war is building.

While it's yet to be determined whether Sweeney will portray Zoe or Mio, the excitement around her involvement is palpable. Split Fiction, which only launched in March, has already achieved remarkable success, selling over 2 million copies in its first week and securing a spot as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised the game, awarding it a 9/10 and describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight, the studio behind Split Fiction, is no stranger to cinematic adaptations. Their other hit, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson potentially starring. While there's always a risk that these projects may not come to fruition, the current success of video game adaptations suggests a strong interest from Hollywood.

Story Kitchen, meanwhile, continues to expand its portfolio of game-to-film projects. Last year, they announced adaptations of Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. As for Hazelight, they are already teasing their next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting what's next.
