Should You Stop or Support Darle in Avowed ‘Fires in the Mine’ Quest?

Author : Nicholas Update : Mar 19,2025

In *Avowed*, the "Fires in the Mine" side quest presents a moral dilemma: support Darle's plan to destroy the mine, or stop him. Both choices have consequences, but one offers significantly better rewards.

To maximize XP, gold, loot, and narrative outcomes, preventing Darle from blowing up the mine is the superior option.

Stopping Darle yields the greatest overall rewards. While supporting him provides 1026 XP, preventing his actions offers substantially more.

Supporting Darle: The Consequences

Letting Darle destroy the mine grants 1026 XP. However, you forfeit any monetary reward from Kada and Seyon, straining relations between the Aedyrans and Thirdborn. Regardless of your attempts to justify your actions, the outcome remains the same.

Stopping Darle: The Rewards

Stopping and killing Darle nets a total of 1091 XP (212 XP for the kill + 879 XP for debriefing), exceeding the reward for supporting him. Furthermore, you receive 900 gold coins from Seyon and Kada. Looting Darle's corpse yields a Blackwood Branch (a superb upgrade material), Wild Mushroom Stew, Beetle Pie (x2). The food items are less significant, but the Blackwood Branch is a valuable addition.

Maintaining positive relations between the Thirdborn and Aedyrans is a beneficial narrative outcome, but the gameplay advantages of stopping Darle—more XP, gold, and valuable loot—make it the clearly better choice.
