"Super Mario World" Sequel Announced and Retracted by NBCUniversal

It appears that we may have received an early hint about the title of the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, thanks to a premature disclosure in an NBCUniversal press release. The release, which was meant to detail the company's Upfront Showcase offerings, inadvertently mentioned "Super Mario World" as an upcoming film from Universal Pictures and Illumination slated for release on their streaming platform, Peacock.

This slip-up quickly caught the attention of internet users and gaming enthusiasts, leading to widespread discussion. In response, Universal promptly revised the press release, removing all references to Mario. The original text had grouped "Super Mario World" with "Shrek" and "Minions," known to be placeholders for Shrek 5 and Minions 3, respectively. This has led to speculation that "Super Mario World" might also be a working title or an umbrella term, rather than the final name for the Mario movie sequel.

Despite the possibility of it being a placeholder, "Super Mario World" is a more specific title than a generic "Super Mario" or "Super Mario Bros.," suggesting it could indeed be the official title. Given the context and history of the Mario franchise, this title would resonate well with fans, evoking memories of the classic Super Nintendo game.
