Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Just Before First Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of Update 2.0, marking what could be a pivotal moment for the game. Scheduled to launch on May 13th, this update represents the most substantial overhaul since its 2024 debut. Despite high expectations, Squad Busters has struggled to attract the audience Supercell had hoped for—so now comes the turning point.

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Update 2.0 is essentially a soft reboot for Squad Busters, redefining core gameplay mechanics and shifting the overall structure. Battles are no longer fought the same way, and victory conditions have been completely reimagined.

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players must now choose a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These characters are pulled from the game’s existing roster, and if your Hero falls in combat, the match is over—raising the stakes with every encounter.

Combat itself has also evolved. Gone are the days of stopping to attack—movement and combat are now seamlessly integrated. This change injects more speed and intensity into matches, making them more dynamic and action-packed.

Victory conditions have seen a major shift as well. Instead of eliminating every opponent on the map, players now only need to defeat the enemy Hero to claim victory. While this adds a new layer of strategy, some fans are skeptical, drawing comparisons to a Brawl Stars variant with added complexity.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Saying Goodbye to Old Content

Several modes—including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder—are being removed entirely. Additionally, certain skins and progression systems will no longer be part of the game.

To soften the blow, Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items. This ensures that those who invested time and effort into older systems won’t feel left behind.

It's clear why Supercell is pushing for such rapid transformation. Squad Busters hasn't yet reached the level of success seen by hits like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars. With the one-year milestone approaching on May 29th, this update serves as a strategic move to reignite player interest.

To celebrate, Supercell is launching a series of daily piñata events offering opportunities to unlock exclusive rewards—including the new Hero Mortis.
