Sony Unveils PC Game Without PSN Mandate
Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo Controversial PSN Account Linking
New evidence suggests Lost Soul Aside, a Sony-published action RPG slated for a 2025 PC release, will not require PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking. This significant change expands the game's potential market, bypassing the PSN's geographical limitations.
Lost Soul Aside, a highly anticipated title from the China Hero Project, has been in development for nearly nine years by UltiZeroGames. While Sony is publishing the game on both PS5 and PC, the company's previous mandate of mandatory PSN linking for PC titles drew considerable criticism. This requirement prevented sales in over 100 countries lacking PSN support.
However, Lost Soul Aside's Steam page initially mentioning PSN linking subsequently removed this requirement, indicating a shift in Sony's strategy. This follows a similar reversal for Helldivers 2, suggesting a potential softening of their stance on PSN account linking for PC games.
This decision benefits PC gamers in unsupported PSN regions, significantly broadening Lost Soul Aside's reach. The reasons behind this change remain unclear, but the underperformance of other PlayStation PC titles following the PSN linking mandate, such as God of War Ragnarok, may have influenced Sony's decision. Maximizing player reach and sales appears to be a key driver. This development could signal a more flexible approach from Sony regarding future PlayStation PC releases.
