Sony Removes Resistance Games from PS5 and PS4 in Major PS Plus Cleanup
Next month, 22 games will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library, including high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This move marks a significant change for gamers who rely on the service for access to a wide range of games.
PlayStation Plus is an essential online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering monthly free games, time-limited trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. Additionally, it provides a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games for Extra and Premium members, enhancing the gaming experience with a vast selection of titles.
According to Push Square, the upcoming removal of these 22 games on May 20 includes two notable first-party Sony PS3 games, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which are set to leave the PS Plus Premium library. This is particularly significant because these titles are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the last resort for playing them without owning a PS3 and the physical copies.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games after their success with the Ratchet and Clank franchise, offers an alternate history first-person shooter experience. The series saw three releases on the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games. Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 were added to the PS Plus library towards the end of 2024, but their removal less than a year later is a blow to fans.
While it's rare for Sony to remove first-party games from PS Plus, it's not unprecedented, as evidenced by the removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, those games remained purchasable on the PS Store, unlike Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which will now be inaccessible on modern consoles.
Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son will also be leaving PS Plus, adding to the list of notable departures.
The Resistance series has been dormant for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president Ted Price shared that there was a push for Resistance 4, but it never received the go-ahead. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has seemingly been shelved.
