Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, are back in the game, this time securing a spot on Steam after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. This comedic management simulator puts players in the shoes of a game development studio head, navigating the chaotic world of game creation.

Last month, despite utilizing seemingly AI-generated art and a tongue-in-cheek list of improbable gameplay features, Grand Taking Ages VI (as it was then known) briefly appeared on the PlayStation Store, complete with a May 2025 release date and wishlist option. However, Sony swiftly removed it. Now, following key adjustments, the game has received approval from Valve and launched on Steam.

Developer Violarte explained to IGN that Grand Taking Ages underwent a rigorous review process to secure Steam approval. The Steam page boasts a new trailer and updated screenshots, further emphasizing the game's parodic nature. Changes include dropping the "VI" from the title, revising the logo, descriptions, and presentation to clearly distinguish it from GTA 6. While the art still bears a resemblance to Rockstar's iconic style, it's subtly different.

Generative AI remains a core element, with Violarte disclosing on the Steam page the use of AI for voiceovers—a decision whose results are readily apparent in the trailer. The Steam page description now reads: "Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of 'creative' deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!"

Violarte adopted a different strategy with Valve, proactively engaging with their team to discuss the game's concept before submitting it. This preemptive approach ensured alignment with Steam's guidelines. They cite projects like Grand Theft Hamlet (a documentary about actors staging Hamlet within GTA Online) as examples of successful GTA parodies.

Violarte has now requested Grand Taking Ages be reinstated on the PlayStation Store, highlighting the Steam approval as evidence of the game's updated compliance. They are confident that Sony will approve the game given the implemented changes.

The PlayStation Store's initial acceptance of Grand Taking Ages VI raised questions about its curation process, contrasting sharply with Steam's more open approach. Steam, along with other app stores, is known for its diverse content, increasingly incorporating generative AI. GTA 6, meanwhile, is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
