Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year
Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift was announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, indicating a strategic move towards PS5 exclusivity for the service's core offerings. Sony stated that while PS4 games will become less frequent in the monthly and catalog selections, already claimed titles remain accessible, and existing Games Catalog entries will stay available until their scheduled removal.
The company emphasizes its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, highlighting continued benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The future focus on PS5 titles promises a consistent stream of new games for subscribers.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony cites a player base largely transitioned to PS5, influencing this decision. The future placement of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further announcements expected closer to the implementation date.
