Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Partners with Nickelodeon, Adding SpongeBob, Avatar, and TMNT Characters
Earlier this month, Sega made waves with the announcement of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds welcoming a roster of exciting guest characters, including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza, Joker from Persona 5, and fan-favorite Minecraft icons Steve, Alex, and Creeper. But the crossover fun doesn’t end there. Sega has now unveiled a brand-new collaboration with Nickelodeon, confirming that SpongeBob SquarePants will be hitting the track—complete with a vibrant Bikini Bottom-themed raceway and the iconic Patty Wagon vehicle.
Joining SpongeBob is none other than his best buddy Patrick Star, both racing across the underwater city of Bikini Bottom in a kart modeled after the legendary Krabby Patty. The newly released trailer showcases the whimsical charm and fast-paced action fans can expect, blending the colorful world of SpongeBob SquarePants with the high-octane racing of the Sonic universe.
This Nickelodeon partnership doesn’t stop at SpongeBob and Patrick—Sega has teased future additions from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hinting at even more nostalgic crossovers to come.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is shaping up to be a celebration of Sega’s legacy, packed with beloved franchise icons like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman. With an ever-expanding roster bolstered by major guest stars, the game is set to offer over [ttpp] playable characters when including post-launch DLC.
For players opting for the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Digital Deluxe Edition, the Season Pass is included, unlocking all the Nickelodeon content, the recently revealed Minecraft characters, vehicles, and tracks, characters from the Netflix series Sonic Prime, and two additional collaborations still under wraps.
As anticipation builds, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up to challenge the kart racing giant Mario Kart World, the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive that has so far stayed within Nintendo’s internal universe. In contrast, Sega’s bold crossover approach brings a fresh, eclectic energy to the genre.
Launching on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 this September, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds promises to reignite the classic Mario vs. Sonic rivalry in full force. IGN recently got hands-on with the game and came away thrilled. “It’s a vibe,” they said, “and one that I’ve enjoyed and will look forward to drifting through.”
