Onimusha: Release Date & New Details Unveiled

Capcom has unveiled new details about Onimusha: Way of the Sword, scheduled for a 2026 launch. The game will showcase intense battles across iconic Kyoto settings, a refined combat system, and an original hero.

A core focus is the authentic sensation of wielding a blade. To convey the realism of swordplay, the developers have introduced new Genma adversaries and the ability to alternate between swords and the powerful Omni Gauntlet.

A central theme is "the satisfaction of precisely dismantling foes." Combat will be visceral and fierce, with a soul absorption mechanic that lets players regenerate health and unleash special abilities. Capcom clarified that some trailer versions may omit dismemberment and blood effects, but these will be fully present in the final game.

The development team has preserved Onimusha's iconic style while weaving in dark fantasy elements. Utilizing "Capcom's latest technology," they aim to deliver the most engaging experience possible.

The game will introduce compelling characters, including a new protagonist, and enemies defined by more than just their appearance. The setting is the Edo period (1603-1868), with events unfolding in Kyoto—a city rich in historical sites veiled in eerie tales. Guided by his faith, the protagonist comes to possess the Oni Gauntlet, compelling him to battle monsters that infest the living world and absorb their souls to restore health and perform special techniques. The game also features real historical figures. Sword fights unfold in real-time, with the developers emphasizing that players should "revel" in the destruction of their enemies.
