Rumor: Ubisoft Has Restarted Development of Project Maverick

Author : Alexander Update : Mar 21,2025

A report by Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot of the Far Cry extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick. Originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led Ubisoft to significantly alter the project's direction. Despite positive employee and tester feedback, resource allocation shifted heavily towards Far Cry 7 (Project Blackbird), ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the multiplayer component. The technical team's reassignment sealed the fate of the original vision.

Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now oversees the project. Most of the original development team has transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

Insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024) reports that Far Cry 7 will immerse players in a high-stakes, time-sensitive narrative. A mysterious conspiracy cult, conducting horrific experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children, kidnaps the protagonist's family. Players must rescue their loved ones within a critical 72 in-game hours (24 real-time hours), making time management a core gameplay mechanic.

A prominent in-game feature is a wristwatch timer, constantly reminding players of the dwindling time limit. This intensifies the pressure, demanding strategic decision-making under duress. Far Cry 7 promises a unique experience where every second counts, and choices have significant consequences.
