Pokémon Fossil Museum Exhibit Arrives in U.S. Next Year

Author : Gabriel Update : Jul 03,2026

The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the Pokémon Fossil Museum will be coming to North America in May 2026.

For those unfamiliar, the Pokémon Fossil Museum is precisely what its name suggests. Following its initial launch in Japan, this unique exhibition—which draws direct parallels between Pokémon "fossils" and actual prehistoric creatures—will make its debut at Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This marks the exhibit's first appearance outside of Japan.

The museum elaborated: "Visitors will encounter vivid Pokémon models displayed alongside real extinct species from the Field Museum’s holdings—including scientific casts of renowned specimens such as SUE the T. rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, contrasted with Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops. Trainers, how many similarities and differences will you notice?"

If you're unable to travel to Japan or Chicago, there's still a way to explore the Pokémon Fossil Museum. The Pokémon Company and the Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have launched an online virtual tour, allowing fans worldwide to experience the exhibition remotely and examine both real dinosaur fossils and Fossil Pokémon—from a Tyrannosaurus to a Tyrantrum.

In other Pokémon-related developments, earlier today we covered a story about a man in the UK who was arrested after police uncovered a stash of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). The discovery was made during a raid by Greater Manchester Police at a residence in Hyde, Tameside. A police spokesperson quipped: "Gotta catch 'em all."
