Oblivion Remake Coming Soon, Announcement Expected

Bethesda appears poised to announce a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with potential release dates ranging from April to June according to industry insiders.

Reliable leaker NatetheHate, who correctly predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement date, stated the Oblivion reveal would occur this month or next. Video game outlet VGC has verified this information.

In January, Mp1st uncovered apparent leaks from Virtuos, a game support studio, revealing details about an Unreal Engine 5-powered Oblivion remake. When questioned by IGN, Microsoft opted not to provide a statement.

According to MP1st's report, the remake incorporates substantial gameplay modifications: revamped combat mechanics inspired by action-RPGs, improved stealth visibility, refined stamina mechanics, and a more intuitive HUD design. Archery systems have been modernized for both first and third-person play.

News of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 through documents released during Microsoft's FTC hearings regarding their Activision Blizzard acquisition. These records listed several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an Oblivion remaster initially scheduled for FY2022 alongside an Indiana Jones title.

While several projects from that document faced delays or cancellations, the Oblivion project evidently transformed from a remaster to a full remake. The original filing referred to it as a "remaster," suggesting development scope increased significantly since the 2020 documentation.

With Microsoft embracing multiplatform releases and Nintendo's next-generation console on the horizon, the remade Oblivion may debut across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and potentially launch simultaneously with the Switch 2 if its June release window holds true.
