Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

Author : Claire Update : Apr 25,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, aligning with previous rumors. This revelation came through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, which features promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play that clearly display the "C" on the button. Although the new button was introduced earlier this year with the Switch 2, initial images did not show any letter on it, leaving its identity ambiguous until now.

Speculation abounds about the function of this C button. Some enthusiasts believe it might facilitate wireless casting of the Switch 2 to a TV or support screen sharing. Others speculate that it could switch the Joy-Con's functionality, perhaps into a mouse mode. There's also chatter about potential new group or voice chat features being linked to this button.

PlayNintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button's purpose. In the meantime, here's what we know for certain about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June, based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • It's larger than the original Switch, with bigger Joy-Con that appear designed to function as a mouse.
  • The console features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
