Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs

Author : Mila Update : May 20,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its array of accessories. While the price of the console itself remains unchanged, the cost of accessories has seen a significant shift, prompting a mixed reaction from early adopters contemplating their pre-order decisions.

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be priced at $449.99 for the base model, with the bundle that includes Mario Kart World priced at $499.99. The standalone price for Mario Kart World remains at $79.99, while the new game, Donkey Kong Bananza, is set at $69.99.

However, the spotlight is on the accessory pricing, which has seen an across-the-board increase. Here's a detailed breakdown:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

Nintendo's announcement on their official site states that the Switch 2 accessories will "experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions." Notably, big-ticket items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera have seen a consistent $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set, on the other hand, has jumped by $10, now priced at $119.99 from the previous $109.99.

The increased cost of a Joy-Con 2 Pair, now nearly reaching triple digits, has left many prospective buyers puzzled and frustrated. Despite the pricing concerns, fans are quick to point out a silver lining: the compatibility of many Switch 1 accessories with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will remain compatible for use with appropriate games.

The online community is abuzz with discussions about leveraging Switch 1 accessories and exploring third-party controller options. While these may not offer all the features of a Switch 2 controller, such as the C-button or console wake functionality, they present a cost-effective alternative for some buyers.

Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments could occur depending on market conditions, indicating potential fluctuations. For those who already own a Pro controller, it's reassuring to know they can continue using it with the Switch 2.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are set to commence on April 24, 2025, as fans weigh their options and consider the overall value of the new console and its accessories.
