Microsoft has unveiled Retro Classics with Game Pass, partnering with Antstream Arcade to deliver more than 50 beloved Activision titles from the 80s and 90s to subscribers. This nostalgic collection features timeless arcade hits like Commando, Pitfall!, and MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat - some dating back nearly half a century. Notably, many of these classics now support save functionality for the first time ever.

Describing this initiative, Microsoft stated Retro Classics represents their "ongoing dedication to game preservation and backward compatibility." The service will be accessible to all Game Pass tiers in existing markets.

This launch marks just the beginning - Microsoft plans monthly expansions of the collection, eventually surpassing 100 retro titles drawn from Activision and Blizzard's archives.

Launch Titles in the Retro Classics Collection:

  • Activision prototype #1
  • Atlantis & Atlantis II
  • Barnstorming
  • Baseball
  • Commando
  • Demon Attack
  • Enduro
  • Fishing Derby
  • Grand Prix
  • H.E.R.O.
  • Kaboom!
  • Pitfall! & Pitfall II
  • River Raid I & II
  • Space Quest series
  • Zork series

Microsoft highlighted key features:

"Retro Classics offers seamless play across console, PC, and cloud-enabled devices including smart TVs and VR headsets. Players can enjoy competitive challenges, unlock new achievements, and utilize the groundbreaking save functionality for these heritage titles."

This announcement follows closely after Xbox's May 2025 Wave 2 lineup reveal and news of Hellblade 2's PlayStation 5 launch this summer.
