The upcoming Blade reboot has faced numerous delays and setbacks, sparking considerable speculation about its future. However, recent developments offer a renewed sense of optimism.

Five years after initial announcements, the film remains unreleased, leading to significant criticism of Marvel's handling of the project. Yet, hope persists. After a string of negative updates, The Hollywood Reporter indicates that production isn't being scrapped. The film, originally conceived as a period piece, is now shifting to a contemporary setting. While plot specifics are scarce, a script rewrite is underway this summer, coinciding with the search for a new director.

Reports previously suggested the project had returned to the drawing board due to dissatisfaction among key figures. However, the ongoing script revisions, aiming for completion by summer's end, and the active pursuit of a new director following Yann Demange's departure, signal a renewed commitment. These changes, if successful, could pave the way for the film's eventual release. The rewrites, however, might significantly alter the narrative.

The initial vision, a 1920s period piece centered on Blade's daughter, featured Mia Goth as Lilith, a vampire antagonist targeting the daughter. The comic book Lilith has two iterations – Dracula's daughter and the Mother of Demons – and the film's version remained unspecified. The shift to a modern setting suggests substantial plot deviations.

Past directorial changes stemmed from perceived mismatches between directorial style and the project's vision. Bassam Tariq's departure exemplifies this. Star Mahershala Ali, deeply invested in the project, personally vetted directorial candidates, aiming for a filmmaker who could realize his vision of a film comparable to Black Panther. This search presented challenges, as Ali prioritized directors with less major studio experience. While Mia Goth remains attached, Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre are no longer involved following the 2023 actors' and writers' strike. The current release date of November 7, 2025, remains tentative.
