Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era
Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking us on a thrilling adventure set after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are at the helm, working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, fresh from his acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the writing reins for this latest volume. The art will be brought to life by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron), with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing stunning covers for the first issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars series is set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, following the final major clash between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. As the New Republic strives to become the galaxy's new governing power, our heroes face unforeseen challenges. Opportunistic pirates, cunning thieves, and other nefarious villains emerge, seeking to exploit the power vacuum left in the Empire's wake.
“Now that we've concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can launch into a new, unexplored era, introducing fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “These stories will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans adore. We'll be putting a new spin on the galaxy and its landscape, ensuring accessibility for new readers. We're incredibly excited!”
“Alex is an exceptional writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life visually!” Noto shared. “It's been a rewarding experience illustrating the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV versions to base them on. I get to create fresh interpretations while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the spirit of that timeline.”
Star Wars #1 will debut on May 7, 2025, coinciding with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. In February, they'll unveil Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
