Marvel Studios' Easter Egg Hints at Upcoming Hero
Marvel Rivals: Wong's Potential Arrival Sparks Fan Speculation
The upcoming Season 1 of Marvel Rivals, launching January 10th, has ignited excitement amongst its already substantial player base (over 10 million in the first 72 hours!). The season, subtitled "Eternal Night," features Dracula as the main antagonist, hinting at a supernatural theme. This is further supported by the confirmed addition of the Fantastic Four, along with their villainous counterparts, the Maker and Malice, as alternate skins.
However, a recent discovery has added fuel to the speculation fire. A Reddit user, fugo_hate, highlighted a brief glimpse of a Wong painting in the trailer for the new Sanctum Sanctorum map. This subtle Easter egg, referencing Doctor Strange's mystical ally, has led many to believe Wong could become a playable character in the future. The inclusion of the Sanctum Sanctorum, rife with supernatural Marvel references, only strengthens this theory.
Wong's rising popularity, fueled by Benedict Wong's MCU portrayal, makes his inclusion a potentially lucrative move. While previously featured in games like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (non-playable) and Marvel Contest of Champions, his addition to Marvel Rivals would mark a significant step for the character.
Season 1's launch this week will introduce three new locations, a new Doom Match mode, and the playable Fantastic Four. Whether Wong joins the roster remains to be seen, but the possibility certainly adds another layer of anticipation for Marvel Rivals' future. The painting might simply be a tribute, but the speculation is undeniably exciting.
